Gallery at Crystal Waters

Snake Apple Tree Art Gallery, Crystal Waters (197, 71, 21) - Adult

NEW GALLERY

new mesh building

new location

Hoping this one will last as permanently as anything in SL can

What I adore about this location

is the sound.

There are waterfalls, ocean waves,

and horse breeding for that occasional neighing sound

blowing in on the wind.

 It is serene.

Which is exactly what I need.

The mesh gallery fits snugly into the location

surrounded by cliffs and facing a ranch of horses.

Bliss.

Not bliss for the neighbours apparently, who raised mountains to box my box in. Bless 'em.

EXHIBITION SPRING 2024

[AIAE]

Abstract Expressionism & Artificial Intelligence

“Aimed at subjective emotional expression.”

noun

abstract expressionism

A development of abstract art which originated in New York in the 1940s and 1950s and aimed at subjective emotional expression with particular emphasis on the spontaneous creative act (e.g. action painting).

- Oxford Languages Dictionary

“Abstract Expressionism was notably influenced by the spontaneous and subconscious creation methods. Abstract Expressionism was seen as rebellious and idiosyncratic, encompassing various artistic styles, and was the first specifically American movement to achieve international influence.

The term "abstract expressionism" is believed to have first been used in Germany in 1919 in the magazine Der Sturm in reference to German Expressionism. Alfred Barr used this term in 1929 to describe works by Wassily Kandinsky.”

- Wikipedia

We are exploring the relationship between Traditional Art and AI art.

Getting an AI image generator to create abstract expressionism style imagery removes the Human painter /  decision-maker and that characteristic impulsivity which abstract expressionism is about.

All which remains is the imagery for a third party observer to interact with. Any emotional experience is not from its creator which being a machine is emotionless but from the viewer who encounters the piece. This includes the satisfaction of the machine operator.

[Drawings]

Just to prove I am a real life artist with skills and talent and all that.

Necessary in this day and age

where artists pioneering AI art

are under a lot of pressure

from people who hates it.

Not many of my drawings have survived.

Most of it was stolen or thrown away.

Such is the art community of South Wales.

Most of it was not photographed for posterity.

The few examples here show a development

of my practical studied skill through the years.

[Waterhouse Zen]

'Zen Gardens by John William Waterhouse'

and

[Waterhouse Punk]

'Steam Punk by John William Waterhouse'

is AI concept art.

These are not original John William Waterhouse paintings.

They are in the beautiful style of JWW

as closely as an AI art app can render it.

Absolutely no intention is made whatsoever to persuade anybody these are original JWW paintings.

They are not. They are AI generated images.

In accordance with British Legislation

these images are also ©2024 Ordo Octopia All Rights Reserved.

With exception of the photograph of JWW from his biography.

"John William Waterhouse RA was an English painter known for working first in the Academic style and for then embracing the pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood's style and subject matter. His paintings are known for their depictions of women from both Ancient Greek mythology and Arthurian legend. A high proportion depict a single young and beautiful woman in a historical costume and setting, though there are some ventures into Orientalist painting and genre painting, still mostly featuring women."

There is more to this project.

The designs for architecture and costume are inspirations. Myself and any others who enjoy to do so will create in 3D mesh such objects for use in SecondLife as environments and clothes. Personally my skill set is the architecture more than the clothes.

And so between Zen Gardens and Steam Punk prompts in the style of Waterhouse, AI becomes a necessary stage in the pipeline of bringing forth an imagined world into a 3D digital VR environment for us to share and enjoy, a world which from the visual imagery 'a picture tells a thousand words' can be written literature, set in such a world as portrayed.

Use of AI has been integral to this development.

This exhibition is divided into three areas, based on themes.

Classical,  Zen Garden,  SteamPunk
