Exhibition & Artists Statement

"abstract expressionism, painterly, urban, textured, cement, gritty, grime, grunge, graffiti, dirty paint, gold leaf, indigo blue,"
I love the 'gritty urban grunge style' because if I don't, it will do to me what it does to the aspirations and architecture of our created environment.
This exhibition is a layered fusion of religious mythology with modern iconography, highlighting the relevance of it today as much as thousands of years ago.
"A persons spiritual beliefs are personal."
I have not set out to offend anybody who is not already looking to be offended. Should I see Christ in the cement ("lift the stone and you will find me") the way which Michaelangelo saw David in a block of marble, that's between me and Creation.
A major focus of this exhibition is not specifically about the Life of Jesus as a man, but of the Holy Mother, Santa Maria. The way we celebrate Christs Mass very often overlooks the importance of her role. Not only in the Nativity but in the early formative experiences and life of someone who was prophesied and later turned out accurately to be a Messiah. That can't have been an easy job for either of them.
A lot of that has to do with Christs spiritual beliefs, symbolised by his contemplations and confrontations with symbolic characters such as the Devil, and his terrorist activities against Usury (exploitation), for which he was later tortured to death by the government, in a defiant act of martyrdom.
Looking at it through the lens of todays world, it's easy to believe that the insights of the Christian faith are not something outdated from an ancient past, but are as relevant and immediate to us in todays world, despite what we mistakenly describe as 'progress'.
Are we any closer to God now than we were under Roman occupation?
In harmony with the purpose of Christs way, all of the icons and paintings in this exhibition are Full Perm and cost zero of your hard earned moneys.
As it happens, the technology we have now means unlimited copies and unlimited varieties of each image are readily available with a small amount of human work. Please be as respectful of these pixel icons as if they were real physical, hand-crafted objects. The spiritual essence they channel is no less than were they made of wood to be broken like wafers.
Oh yeah, and Happy Christmas.
