Proposal for Art Exhibition: “Targeted Harassment”
Dear [Gallery Owner’s Name],
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to propose a new exhibition that I believe could resonate with the public and provide insight into some deeply personal and difficult experiences I have been facing. The exhibition is titled “Targeted Harassment.”
This exhibition would center around the screenshots documenting an ongoing campaign of harassment directed at me by an individual named Sylvia, along with diary entries that reflect the emotional toll this has had on me. My intention is not merely to display these works as a form of exposure, but to use art as a means of self-therapy and reflection on the ways in which harassment impacts both the individual and the community.
I fully recognize that this form of art might come across as provocative or even antagonistic, and I approach this with the utmost understanding of how it could be perceived. However, it is essential to note that as an artist, my work is often fueled by the lived experiences I go through. This exhibition reflects not only my personal struggle but the larger social issues surrounding harassment, abuse, and the need for accountability, particularly in digital spaces like Second Life.
I believe that art should reflect the complexities of our world, including the more uncomfortable and raw elements. “Targeted Harassment” speaks to this truth—acknowledging the weight of negative experiences and reclaiming power through artistic expression. It is not a project born out of a desire to create drama, but rather one that stems from the reality of my life and my ongoing challenges.
This exhibition could serve as a form of warning to others in the same community and beyond, offering a chance to raise awareness and spark meaningful conversations. By confronting the abuser publicly in this way, it may also provide a sense of closure for me, allowing me to regain control over my narrative and ensure that Sylvia’s attempts to isolate and silence me are unsuccessful.
For the past few years, I’ve been deeply invested in creating noir fiction and art that explores themes of societal struggle and personal trauma. In many ways, “Targeted Harassment” aligns with that thematic exploration, as it is an extension of my ongoing creative journey.
I completely understand if this concept feels too challenging, and I want to reassure you that I will respect whatever decision you make. If you feel this exhibition is not the right fit for your gallery, I will not take it personally. I do not claim to have all the answers, but I believe in the power of this project to speak to the wider community, to challenge norms, and perhaps to offer some healing.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my proposal. I would be grateful for the opportunity to discuss it further with you if you’re open to it.
Warm regards,
