The Food Store

The Food Shop - a cautionary tale.

Imagine you are employed to work in a shop. Your job is to gather in the food. Your boss has told you, gather in all the food from all the sources. She has not shared her vision with you beyond that, because you do not need to know about it at this stage.

During your time working in the shop, you mention to the boss it would be a mistake to make the food available to people. You suggest she does not do that. The boss notices this as a sign of something not right in your attitude, but says nothing. She pays closer attention to what you are doing because you have given her cause for concern.

Then the boss catches you being selective about which food you’re gathering in. You are taking it upon yourself to gather food from some sources but to reject food from other sources. This is not what you were instructed to do. Acting as your bosses agent, you are causing people she intends to trade with to believe she has shut the door to them. It affects her business and her reputation. It also affects the food providers businesses and their self-belief.

The boss call you into accountability for this. Why did you go against instructions? She has clearly thought through some possible reasons you might have done this, to try and understand it.

She gives you an opportunity to justify yourself in your own words. She even suggests a work-around, giving you another opportunity to adjust your behaviour.

Now imagine that your reaction to this is to rage and to accuse the boss of the following things:

Of being selective about which food she gathers in.

Of repressing you.

Of being a manifestation of your dead great grandmother.

Of saying things she did not say, multiple counts.

Then you follow this up by contacting mutual friends and acquaintances and other third parties to express how you have been abused by the boss, that she is unprofessional to work with, and that the boss had said, repeat of things she did not actually say.

Then you contact the boss to tell her you are doing this and show her the evidence.

Then you follow this up by taking the food out of the shop, starting a new shop directly opposite the original shop, to sell that same food and any other food you can acquire.

Not only this but you spray-paint in great big letters all over the street that the boss is censoring people, to try to persuade them to go to your shop and not to hers.

All of that constitutes fraudulent behaviour. By far most people do not behave in this way. It is widely recognised to be antisocial personality disorder with criminal intent.

Sometime later, some of the people who the boss had intended to trade with, tell her they have given up being food producers completely, because of their interaction with you. They were relying on the original shop to trade with.

Now, there is insufficient food produced in the village to sustain two food shops.

What is that boss going to do to defend her business and to defend the food producers and the people who want to buy the food?

Should she ignore it?
